Preparing for Your First Class
Students enrolled in Sampler, Obedience 1, Beginner Obedience, and Puppy Obedience should come prepared for class.
Please review the following guidelines to ensure you and your dog are ready for training.
What to Bring to Class
- Vaccination records: Bring a paper copy of your dog’s vaccination records to your first class.
- Appropriate footwear: Wear flat shoes with a closed back or back strap. No flip-flops, Crocs, or Birkenstocks.
- Soft training treats: Bring small, soft treats such as Bil-Jac Little-Jacs or Lean Treats cut into quarters.
- Treat pouch: A treat pouch or nail apron works well.
- Leash: Bring a 6-foot leash with a single hand loop. Do not attach metal clips, hooks, or waste-bag holders to the leash.
- Collar: Your dog’s collar should fit securely, allowing approximately two fingers between the collar and neck. Flat buckle, martingale, and properly fitted training collars are permitted. Harnesses are not recommended.
- Waste bags: Please bring bags to clean up after your dog.
Preparing Your Dog for Class
To help keep your dog motivated during training, avoid feeding a full meal immediately before class. Bringing your dog with a healthy appetite can make training treats more rewarding.
Please avoid strenuous exercise on the day of class so your dog arrives rested and ready to learn.
Always make sure your dog has access to fresh water, and adjust feeding and exercise as needed for your dog’s age, health, and individual needs.
Club Policies
Please review Azalea Dog Training Club’s policies before registering for classes. These policies help ensure a safe, positive, and enjoyable training experience for everyone.
