I started “formal” obedience training in 1980 with a Rough Collie in Wake Forest.
Transferred to Wilmington due to work in 1982. ADTC had a Fun Match at Empie Park where I entered that same Collie. I was hooked!
Started classes with ADTC with my Doberman in 1984. We earned two legs towards his CD before we had to stop due to health problems he was having. I was lucky enough to join as a member in 1985. Since that time I have put Obedience titles or legs on German Shepherds, a Yorkshire Terrier, Boxers, and Australian Shepherds. I “floated” home after one of my Aussies went High in Trial. I have Rally titles on Australian Shepherds, and a Rough Coated Chihuahua. I have breed championships and or points on a German Shepherd, a Smooth Collie, Boxers, Australian Shepherds, and a Mini Long Haired Dachshund. I was very proud when my Champion Boxer was shown at Westminster.
I have taught Puppy through Novice obedience classes. My speciality is the Puppy and Beginner classes. I brought Rally to ADTC before it was even in AKC. Luckily once AKC started having Rally, member Many Temple took it and ran with it! I taught some of our first AKC Rally classes many years ago.
In the late 1980’s I enhanced our Therapy Dog/Safety Programs in a five county area. I taught the first in-house Therapy Dog program with ADTC.
I have held every office except Treasurer with ADTC’s Board of Directors. Some offices for multiple years or times such as President! I have served as Training Director multiple times over the years.
My students and their companions have always been and will continue to be very special to me. Gracious, I’ve been doing this so long, I have past students’ grand kids in class! Happy heeling everyone!
