Session III is underway. In response to news of a brand new CANINE VIRUS/FLU that began in FL & GA 6 weeks ago, ADTC Members are in touch with contacts all over the southeastern states, doing our best to keep abreast of potential spreading. There have been no outbreaks locally and we have not heard of any outbreaks anywhere close to us. However, we are being very cautious in order to protect the dogs currenty training at our facility. We posted informational signs at our facility and messages expressing our concern about the spread of this dangerous disease. If caught early, it can be treated successfully, but dogs have been lost to this virus w/ owners thinking the intestinal upset is caused by something their pet ate. If your dog displays any unusual symptoms, please do not wait, have them checked by their Vet asap. In response to this very real threat, a group of our Members have done a preventative cleaning of our facility, using products that should kill any germs. We have cleaned the entire building, including floor, crates, chairs and any other surface that might contain any germs. We are still holding classes, but please use your own good judgement as to whether your dog should attend during this possible crisis. Please check back here on our website, where we will do our best to report any incidences of this disease. Upcoming Events (that may or may not be canceled) : Nosework Seminars 6/17/17, Session IV begins 7/31/17, & Show 'n' Go planned for August. Interested? Please visit the link for each activity and contact us with any questions.

“We Passed!” Happy Therapy Teams Evaluated

“Potential Therapy Teams Wanted!!!  Please contact us…. ”  well, we asked and you answered and we are now very proud that we have 11 new therapy Teams in progress!!!  Recently, ADTC sponsored, as a public service, a day of training and evaluation of potential therapy dogs, under the guidelines of Therapy DogInc.   Website:  http://www.therapydogs.com/

Our Therapy Program is currently undergoing growing pains, as our long time Therapy Guru, Kay Rodgers, has retired from the job of Evaluation and Mentoring new Teams.  Kay, you are a rare gem and we are thankful to you for your many years of service!  You have started many the team on their way toward sharing their love and joy with others.

In the image above, Kay Rodgers, ADTC’s Therapy Director and Tester/Observer for TDInc. presented a thorough ‘learning session’, as well as an opportunity for each interested Team to be evaluated and to sign up for individual supervised therapy visits (three supervised visited required, within six months of testing, to be eligible to be registered).  Besides our wonderful Teams, we were honored to have Tamekia Young, who has made her Senior Project on Therapy Dogs, Star News Reporter: Chris Mudarri and a Staff Photographer (please watch your local paper for an article on ADTC’s Therapy Dog Program, in mid October). In the above picture, from L to R:  behind/on Dogwalk: Lisa Steinkamp & Marty (Shih Tzu), Janet Doxey & Hazel (Corgi), Barbara Bray & Niki (Papillion) & Beacon (Sheltie).  On floor: Lila McDowell & Tucker (Lab), Evaluator Kay Rodgers & Mick (Golden Retriever, team partner Marny photographer), Wendy Yandow & Whoopi & Lucy (Cockers), Shannon Cain & Ollie (Golden Doodle), Cynthia Mackie & Walker (All American), Tamekia & Glory (Golden Retriever – supervising Certified Therapy Dog), down in front:  Dave Moore & Pepper (Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever).  Andrea Kelly & Noah (Bichon) not pictured.   Therapy Dogs Inc. Goal!  “It is a goal of Therapy Dogs Inc. to provide registration, support, and insurance for members who are involved in volunteer animal assisted activities. These activities include, but are not limited to, visits to hospitals, special needs centers, schools, and nursing homes. Our objective is to form a network of caring individuals who are willing to share their special animals in order to bring happiness and cheer to people, young and old alike.”

Effective Fall 2015, our new Therapy Dog Evaluator is the lovely Margi Baldwin Moore.  She had two sets of teams, with 6 teams qualifying and 3 teams asked to come back and try again soon.  All the dogs were outgoing and very sweet, with the 3 teams asked to come back just needing a bit more practice.
